Hello I’m Suzanne, a psychotherapeutic counsellor and trauma sensitive yoga teacher based in Brighton and Hove. I have lived by the sea for over twenty years and see the West Pier almost every morning. It is the backdrop for sunrises, sunsets, seaswims and storms and through tides and time it has eroded down to its most skeletal form where it still stands, strong and resilient, out of the waves.
I thought it was a fitting symbol for the name of my practice, which centres around supporting people to tap into their own personal strength and inner structures to see them through life’s many waves.

I have a background in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse and have a deep understanding of the impact that trauma can have every single day.
I believe that we develop certain behaviours to cope, stay safe, or survive, and at some point these behaviours no longer serve us and we can feel stuck in unhealthy patterns, such as numbness, overwhelm, anxiety, overthinking or compulsive behaviours.
My counselling approach is client-centred, which means that I believe you are the expert on yourself and your own life and my role is to be alongside you and support you to find new ways through.
I will offer, where appropriate, theory and understanding of why these patterns might have developed and support you to explore other possibilities that serve you better. I am a trauma sensitive yoga teacher and might also offer some somatic (embodied) techniques that might help to settle your nervous system and give you fresh coping strategies.
I have a therapy room in Central Hove for 1-1 or telephone counselling.
